After a year of fallow on the Shoes Brothers’ Christmas song & dance front, and in the wake of Fr Willie’s move to another parish, we have a ‘Min in Black’ (short for ‘ministers in black’) collaboration with Greenwood Academy & Loudoun Montgomery Primary School. A call for consistent ‘Kindness’ and the banishing of hate for good, the ‘Colours of Kindness’ song is available on Spotify, iTunes (The Shoes Brothers – TSB), etc & the short film on ‘Fullonart’ YouTube Channel & TSB Dance Facebook.

It’s the fruit of excellent relations between school & chaplaincy team. Heads at Greenwood reached out to offer help to do something this Advent, aware that we’d not been able to do something last year. What troubles teachers more than insubordination is how cruel pupils can be with each other in school. Keyboard warriors now feel able to say ‘face to face’ the cruel things they used to only text & message online. So, our message is loud and clear, that if you can be anything in life, choose to ‘be kind’. The Christmas Story is about God’s Kindness revealed in Christ, born to show us God’s compassion in the way he lived, died, rose again, sharing & showing what God is like. You may recognise the tune from Sydney Youngblood’s 1989 hit ‘If only I could’.

Greenwood’s Faculty Leader in Performance & Design, Alyson Rogers was an absolute star in coordinating & producing the song & short film, which includes messages and classroom cameos of kindness to back up the song’s theme and lyrics. With wonderful enthusiasm Loudoun Montgomery Primary School pupils sing and dance to “Limping with love, hopping with hope, flying with faith”.

Depute Greenwood Head Chris Neil said, “We’re delighted to be involved with ‘Colours of Kindness’ release. It’s a great way to spread cheer at this time of year!”

I fair miss my side-kick Fr Willie, but am delighted to keep the Christmas song & dance tradition going with ‘Colours of Kindness’. Such is the enthusiasm with which teachers & pupils in our local schools’ assemblies receive our Christmas songs & dances, Greenwood Academy wanted to help us continue the tradition. The net result is tribute to the school’s commitment to community relations, and a demonstration of a wealth of talent, & example of ‘Kindness’, one of their values!”

And so we’re promoting the Kindness of Christ in our schools’ Christmas assemblies. The song is being played regularly each day by Irvine Beat radio in the run up to Christmas, and the banner on the Fullarton ConneXions’ Hall, overlooking Marress Roundabout, echoes the song’s message “Colours of Kindness, Wear with Love!”

Colours of kindness spread out on the sheet, People down weapons & move to the beat

Thinking of others, we join in the dance, Positive vibes with every chance!

Love in the flesh, Kindness expressed, Explosion of Grace, We look God in the face!

If only we could, Love can change the bad to good! It’s understood, that Light can banish hate for good! Believe me! Believe me! Believe me! If only we could!

All of this ties in with our Fullarton ConneXions Advent theme of Jesus’ ‘soul clothes’ of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness & patience, we’ve to wear with LOVE (Colossians 3:12-14). Getting dressed for godly & gracious Advent Adventures & acts of Kindness!?
